Title goes hard. Heres some context.
I have a project PC that I use for Gentoo and mess around with whenever I am bored or don't want to try something on my main workstation. Its built entirely from spare parts that I got used, mostly from the local recycling center. It has an AMD FX-8350, and an old ASUS Sabertooth mobo. Up until recently, I was running an RX 480 in it, but I decided to spring for a Vega 64. Unbeknownst to me, the Vega is BIG. It doesn't fit into the Fractal R5 that the system is contained in, which blows because I'd really like to keep this case. Its a bit beat up, and covered in a bunch of degenerate furry stickers that I don't want to have to explain on my store page.
I had recently sourced a Silverstone Fortress F02 which is a massive, and I mean MASSIVE case. It weighs somwhere around 30 pounds empty. The system that came with it also had an old Corsair AIO. I decided to try swapping the FX system into it, however, when uninstalling the AIO today I found that it was leaking. That sucks because the FX system is a full Noctua build, and I don't wanna divorce the DH-14 from the rest of the case fans, since the Fortress comes with its own proprietary fans. Whatever, I said to myself, I'll just swap the board and keep the cooler. Lo and behold, the Vega doesn't fit in the Fortress either. Wow.
What do I do now? I have an ugly Cooler Master from more than a decade ago and a Corsair Graphite left as options. I'm heavily considering the Graphite at the moment, since it has a nice side window, but I am not sure it'll fit the Vega and I am NOT using the CM. So, as it stands it kinda looks like I'll have to either cut or drill out the drive cage on the Fractal, which will involve removing the system from the inside anyway so I dont get any metal dust on the board and short something. Ugh. I guess I'll just have to think about it some more.
Rant over, deuces.
